Halloween is over, which means that we are moving into the busiest holiday time of the year. Before we know it, Thanksgiving will be here and then we will be wrapping up 2017. Have you finished all of your home projects and met your goals for the year? There are still two months left to ensure that you are ready to finish the year strong.

Should You Buy a Home During the Holidays?

Last week I shared some numbers to show the benefits of buying a home right now. Even with those strong numbers, some potential buyers are thinking about waiting until the New Year before they get serious about finding the right home.

But, the truth is that many real estate agents stay busy in the month of December. If someone is listing a house to sell right now, then it probably means that they are motivated to sell it. The person might be moving for a new job or looking to upgrade or downgrade their home as soon as possible.

Both buyers and sellers in the real estate market during the holiday season are motivated to finalize the deal quickly so that they can focus on the celebrations and parties with friends and family members.

Advantages of Buying or Selling a Home in November and December

In fact, there are some distinct advantages to buying or selling a home during this time of year:

• Serious Buyers: People don’t casually look at houses during the busy holiday season unless they are motivated to buy. So, the people that you are working with will be more serious to wrap up negotiations and close the deal.
• Less Competition: If you need to sell a home, you might be up against less competition in the market. Other homeowners will wait until January, but you can take advantage of the low inventory by listing your home right now.
• Year-End Goals: Did you set a goal to move into the home of your dreams by the end of the year? You can still meet that goal if you start the process right now.
• Fresh Start: Many people view the New Year as an opportunity to start fresh. Buying a home is a perfect way to be sure that you are settled and ready for a strong 2018.
