Chasing Happiness During the Holidays

The cooler, winter weather is finally here! The holidays are on my mind – now that Thanksgiving is over, we are full-swing in the last month of the year. Those of us in the real estate business are trying to figure out how to keep things going during this time of year. Where is your focus right now?

The Happiness Lab

My wife and I came across this podcast called the Happiness Lab, hosted by Dr. Laurie Santos, who is a Yale professor. I highly recommend the podcast! I think the message is very relevant during this season.

So many of us are chasing different things that we perceive will bring us happiness. The sad thing is: most of us are chasing things that we think will bring happiness, but it is scientifically proven that these things won’t bring the happiness that we are seeking. This phenomenon is so pronounced during the holiday season! Let’s look at what we are doing that will bring real happiness to us and the people around us.

Tips for Happiness in the Holiday Season

What can you do to infuse your life with happiness? Gratitude is #1 – it’s huge! Make sure that you are stopping and reflecting on the things that you have to be thankful for.

During this time of year, we should be so happy! We are spending time with family and doing things that bring true happiness, but our focus is put in the wrong place. We get caught up in the wrong messages.

Find actual happiness this time of year! Look for the small things that bring joy: settle down, show love and gratitude. Keep your head on straight this time of year. For those of you who are working in the real estate business: make a few calls, keep business going so you don’t have an unhappy close to the year.

I invite you to give some thought to what will bring real happiness to you and those around you this holiday season.  Do lots of that…and get some work done!  Have fun and show some gratitude. Sending my wishes to you and your family during this holiday season. As always, I’m here to answer your mortgage questions if you need assistance.
