Database Management and Self-Discipline

Filed under: Marketing Your Real Estate Business

Having a database (Customer Relationship Management system, CRM) is just the first step to building a relationship with your clients. But, you will be losing out on potential business if you are paying for this monthly service without implementing the self-discipline to maximize the effectiveness of the tool.

Why a CRM?

There are a lot of people in the real estate business that talk about having a CRM. It is critical to have a way to stay in touch with your current and past clients, or else those people will forget about you.

To get started, you need to have a central database where you consolidate information about your network. Every contact should be added to your database and categorized to make it easy to use the information in the future. Not only will you need to update the clients in this system constantly, but you also need to market to the list to help them remember that you are available to help when they need your services.

Thoughts about Self-Discipline

How is self-discipline tied in with the topic of CRMs? These tools are amazing, but they are only good if you use them. To get the best results, you need to proactively manage the content and be sure that you are keeping your list up to date. It takes self-discipline to maintain the consistency that is needed to manage your database.

Do you need a boost to help you feel motivated about self-discipline? I just finished reading “The Power of Self-Discipline” by Brian Tracy, and I highly recommend this book. If you haven’t read it yet, then it is worth your time! It is great for anyone who needs to stay motivated and on-track with their business or personal goals.
